Red Flour Beetle spraying update

The City of Levelland has began taking steps to aid in the Red Flour Beetle movement at the rail park as Penny Newman has began moving mounds of almond hulls to a different facility near the Amarillo area.

The City of Levelland posted an update on September 12 informing citizens the city would begin spraying, fogging at the Penny Newman facility as they load their trucks. It was explained that the effort is to reduce the number of beetles being displaced as the piles are being moved. It will not reduce the numbers completely, but should have some levels of effectiveness.

The plan is to continue to spray, fog at Penny Newman while they load each day. Once they have removed the majority of the hulls, staff will spray, fog the rest of the city starting at the Kauffman Addition.

Levelland and Hockley County Emergency Management Coordinator Cole Kirkland added that the remainder of the piles currently located on the land of Penny Newman should be removed by the end of the week.
