Texas Comptroller announces monthly sales tax hits billion mark

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced he will be sending cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $1.1 billion in local sales tax allocations for October, 4.5 percent more than in October 2022.

These allocations are based on sales made in August by businesses that report tax monthly.

Cities are expected to receive $706.1 million in allocations, which is a 4.5% increase from Oct. 2022 and is a 5.3% increase in the yearto- date change.

Transit systems are expected to receive $230.7 million in allocations, which is a 1.9% increase from Oct. 2022 and is a 5.5% increase in the year-to-date change.

Counties are expected to receive $68.8 million in allocations, which is a 4.6% increase from Oct. 2022 and is a 10.3% increase in the year-to-date change. Special purpose districts are expected to receive $107.1 million in allocations, which is a 4.5% increase from Oct. 2022 and is a 12.1% increase in the year-to-date change.

Overall, all recipients are receiving $1.1 billion in allocations, which is a 4.5% increase from Oct. 2022 and a 6.2% increase in the year-to-datechange.

The City of Levelland received a net payment for this period of $423,822.20, which is 56.56% more than last year’s comparable payment of $270,695.37. The current year-todate total is roughly $4.1 million, which is a 12.18% increase from last year’s year-to-date total of roughly $3.7 million.

The City of Sundown received a net payment for this period of $35,564.51, which is 26.06% less than last year’s comparable payment of $48,104.69. The current year-to-date total is $440,672.88, which is a 2.59% increase from last year’s year-todate total of $429,533.10.

The City of Smyer received a net payment for this period of $5,834.58 and currently has a year-to-date total of $53,702.01.

The City of Ropesville received a net payment for this period of $10,903.14, which is a 4.14% decrease from last year’s comparable payment of $11,374.12. The current year-to-date total is $116,545.76, which is a 11.62% increase from last year’s year-todate total of $104,411.20.

The City of Anton received a net payment for this period of $7,942.46, which is a 42.31% increase from last year’s comparable payment of $5,580.91. The current year-to-date total is $89,128.19, which is a 11.91% increase from last year’s year-todate total of $79,641.68.

For Opdyke West, it received a net payment for this period of $463.83, which is a 24.62% increase from last year’s comparable payment of $372.18. The current year-to-date total is $3,891.63, which is a 8.35% decrease from last year’s year-to-date total of $4,246.60.

The City of Morton received a net payment for this period of $13,932.82, which is a .90% increase from last year’s comparable payment of $13,807.65. The current year-to-date total is $135,430.29, which is a 17.02% increase from last year’s year-todate total of $115,728.88.

The City of Whiteface received a net payment for this period of $3,414.29, which is a 16.01% increase from last year’s comparable payment of $2,942.85. The current year-to-date total is $29,676.03, which is a 7.60% increase from last year’s year-todate total of $27,578.81.
