In a commendable move, the Texas Governor’s Public Safety Office, through its County Essentials Program, has allocated a substantial grant of $439,143.52 to support the extraordinary costs associated with the capital murder prosecution of Robert Jose Garza, Jr.
This assistance, requested by the 286th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, signifies a crucial step in alleviating the financial challenges posed by this Capital Murder case which involves the tragic killing of a young child in Levelland in February 2020. The upcoming capital murder trial is scheduled to commence in 2024.
Capital murder trials are infrequent, time consuming, and demanding, both legally and financially, making the Governor’s office’s intervention significant in ensuring a fair legal process.
District Attorney Angela L. Overman expressed gratitude for the support from the Governor’s office, acknowledging the relief it brings to the taxpayers of Hockley County.
“The District Attorney’s Office remains steadfast in its commitment to uphold the laws of the State of Texas and ensure justice is served in this case,” stated Overman.
