ANOTHER DAY WITH DOM!

I have found that the holiday season is a choatic time for us at the News-Press with the amount of events and coverage that needs to be done, but I couldn’t wish it to be any other way.

Our community has so much going on at any given time throughout the holiday season. Ranging from Christmas on the Square, Fa La La, Blue Santa and the Wallace Theater holding their lighting ceremony.

For individuals who aren’t heavily involved with what goes on around the community, I can understand why few tell me there is not much of anything going on here.

Instead of arguing, I just tell those people there are wonderful individuals throughout the community who want to bring fun and amazing dreams to this area. I see plenty of social media posts complaining and saying negative things to those who put together events or try to bring something new to our town. It is easy to make those comments when they are not the ones putting a 100% of their effort into making these events happen.

I encourage our community members to show their support for the events and certain gatherings that are held within out town. We could not have them and our community travel else where to find these types of events.

The holiday season is about coming together and showing love for one another. Covering these events, they are fun, family oriented and are a breathe of fresh air. I tell people all the time that Levelland is a great place to be compared to other areas.

Having covered sports for our local teams for an extended period of time, I did my fair share of traveling through the majority of the state and I have found a new appreciation for what this town has become.

There are always going to be bumps in the road. I understand that things are far from picture perfect but I would rather lend my hand in the efforts of making things better instead of adding to the problems. This has become my mentality as we approach the holiday season because I have been thinking about what I truly appreciate in my life and how things could be different.

As we approach 2024, newyear resolutions will be coming to mind and I suggest thinking about becoming more involved with what goes on around the community. There are so many options to get involved it would take me a day to try and name them all.

Have a great Christmas and travel safely for those who are planning to. For those who don’t celebrate the holiday I still hope all is well and you have a great holiday season.
