Hockley County Grand Jury returns indictments

The 286th Judicial District Attorney’s Office announced that a Hockley County Grand Jury convened on February 4, and considered cases against 26 individuals.

After presentations by the District Attorney’s Office and law enforcement, the Grand Jury returned 22 indictments and passed on one other case.

Eliasar Tienda, 52, was charged with Murder and Manufacturing, Delivery of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group One, between four grams and 200 grams.

On or about December 22, 2023, the defendant intentionally caused the death of an individual by stabbing the chest with a knife.

A second count states the defendant knowingly possessed with the intent to deliver, a controlled substance namely methamphetamine, in an amount of four grams or more but less than 200 grams.

Randy Thomas Torres-Gilmer, 26, was charged with Assault Peace Officer, Judge.

On or about September 23, 2023, the defendant intentionally caused bodily injury to a peace officer by striking him in the face with his elbow while the defendant knew that the complainant was a police officer and was lawfully attempting to detain the defendant.

Scotty Ray Flores, 49, was charged with Driving While Intoxicated Third or More. On or about March 12, 2023, Flores operated a motor vehicle in a public place while the defendant was intoxicated.

Jordan Keith Demps, 28, was charged with Tampering, Fabricate Physical Evidence with Intent to Impair (Attempted) and the Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group One 1B, between one gram and four grams.

On or about October 14, 2023, Demps committed the offense of tampering, fabricate physical evidence with intent to impair, namely dropping a clear plastic baggy containing pills on the ground. A second count states the defendant possessed a controlled substance, namely methamphetamine in an amount of more than one gram and less than four grams.

Elijah Alvarado, 21, was charged with the Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group One 1-B, less than one gram.

On or about September 8, 2023, Alvarado knowingly possessed a controlled substance, namely methamphetamine in an amount of less than one gram.

Michael Ray Resendez, 31, was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group One 1-B, less than one gram.

On or about November 7,2023, the defendant knowingly possessed a controlled substance, namely methamphetamine, in an amount of less than one gram.

Benjamin Ray Williams, 39, was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group One 1-B, less than one gram.

On or about August 21, 2023, the defendant possessed a controlled substance, namely methamphetamine in an amount less than one gram.

Charles Robert Crocket, 29, was charged with Evading Arrest, Detention With Vehicle and Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1-B, less than one gram.

On or about January 11, the defendant, while using a motor vehicle, fled from a person the defendant knew was a peace officer who was attempting lawfully to arrest or detain the defendant.

A second count states the defendant possessed a controlled substance, namely methamphetamine in an amount less than one gram.

Jose Refugio Yebra, 42, was charged with Driving While Intoxicated Third or More. On or about December 20, 2023, Flores operated a motor vehicle in a public place while the defendant was intoxicated.

Lionel Gonzales, 35, was charged with Assault Family, Household Member with Previous Conviction.

On or about October 27, 2023, Gonzales intentionally caused bodily injury to a complainant, a member of the defendant’s family by grabbing the individual by the throat, blocking the mouth, applying pressure to the throat or neck and shoving the individual into the wall.

Francisco Portillo, 26, was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group One, less than one gram.

On or about October 13, 2023, the defendant knowingly possessed a controlled substance, namely methamphetamine in an amount less than one gram.

Quinton Don Solano, 31, was charged with the Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group One 1-B, less than one gram.

On or about August 29, 2023, Alvarado knowingly possessed a controlled substance, namely methamphetamine in an amount of less than one gram.

Ernesto Torres, 42, was charged with the Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group One, between one gram and four grams.

On or about November 30, 2023, the defendant knowingly possessed a controlled substance, namely methamphetamine, in an amount of more than one gram but less than four grams.

Randy Levi Garza, 25, was charged with Injury Child, Elderly, Disabled Reckless Bodily Injury and Assault Family, Household Member with Previous Conviction.

On or about November 27, 2023, the defendant intentionally caused bodily injury to an individual 65-years-old or older by grabbing or striking her arm.

Additionally, the defendant intentionally caused bodily injury to the same individual by grabbing or striking the arm.

Hilario Garcia, 57, was charged with Evading Arrest Detention with Previous Conviction and Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group One 1-B, less than one gram.

On or about December 2, 2023, the defendant fled from a person the defendant knew was a peace officer who was attempting lawfully to arrest or detain the defendant.

A second count states the defendant knowingly possessed a controlled substance, namely methamphetamine, in an amount of less than one gram.

Christopher Cole Castillo, 21, was charged with the Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group One, less than one gram DFZ.

On or about November 15, 2023, the defendant knowingly possessed a controlled substance, namely methamphetamine in the amount of less than one gram. The offense was committed in, on, or within 1,000 feet of the premises of a playground or school.

Charles Micahel Betts, 38, was charged with Theft of Property between $2,500 and $30,000.

On or about August 28, 2023, the defendant unlawfully appropriated a pressure washer, of value of $2,500 or more but less than $30,000 from the owner without effective consent.

Charles Michael Betts, 38, was charged with the Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group One 1-B, less than one gram.

On or about October 15, 2023, the defendant knowingly possessed a controlled substance, namely methamphetamine in an amount less than one gram.

Leonardo Martinez, 48, was charged with the Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group One 1-B, less than one gram DFZ.

On or about November 7, 2023, the defendant knowingly possessed a controlled substance, namely methamphetamine in the amount of less than one gram. The offense was committed in, on, or within 1,000 feet of the premises of a playground, the Levelland City Park.

Harley Ray Dodson, 55, was charged with Theft of Property between $2,500 and $30,000.

On or about October 1, 2023, the defendant unlawfully appropriated a 2008 Ford F-250 Pickup Truck, of value of $2,500 or more but less than $30,000 from the owner without effective consent.

On or about October 1, 2023, the defendant unlawfully appropriated a diesel pressure washer, of value of $2,500 or more but less than $30,000 from the owner without effective consent.

Heather Crisp, 20, was charged with the Attempted Burglary of a Habitation.

On or about December 4, 2023, the defendant with the specific intent to commit the offense of burglary of a residence opened the screen door and turned the doorknob of the front door to the residence which amounted to more than mere preparation that tended but failed to effect the commission of the offense intended.
