The Sundown Roughettes took on the Ralls Lady Jackrabbits this past Monday and Tuesday in district play for UIL Softball Action where they swept them 13-3 and 10-1.
Sundown 13, Ralls 3
For the Roughettes first matchup against Ralls they were the visiting team where they won 13-3.
The first run of the game went Ralls as they were able to take the quick 1-0 lead after a home run slam at the bottom of the first.
Sundown answered back at the top of the second due to Camry Jourden as she scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 1-1.
The next runs didn’t come until the Roughettes had another three runs happen in the top of the third with Ariel Hernandez, and Emry Jourden scoring off of a single ground ball from Brynly Gregory, while she went home after a double off of a line drive to left field by Breigh Gregory making the score 4-1.
Six more Sundown runs crossed the plate in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 10-1. An error scored one run, Jourden homered to center field, scoring two runs, Camry Jourden singled, scoring one run and a Ralls player induced Erick Posadas to hit into a fielder’s choice, but two runs scored.
Ralls was able to get two runs in the bottom of the fourth off of a single to right field that caused an error and gave them two runs to make the score 10-3 with Sundown leading.
At the top of the sixth Sundown was able to get two more runs after Camry Jourden stole home and Posadas tripled on a line drive to right field to send Araceli Ibarra home to make the score 12-3.
The final point of the first game came from Emry Jourden who hit a home run on a pop fly to left field to put the game out of reach and win their first game in unfamiliar territory.
The Roughettes totaled 12 hits in the game, Gregory and Jourden were a force together in the lineup as they each collected three hits for the Roughettes while hitting back-to-back.
Posadas led Sundown with three batted runs. Gregory collected two hits for the Roughettes in five at bats. Jourden stole two bases while the team as a whole stole four.
Sundown 10, Ralls 1
For the team’s second matchup against each other they met in Sundown where the Roughettes had a clean sweep on the Ralls Lady Jackrabbits as they won 10-1.
The Roughettes took an early lead in the bottom of the first after Breigh Gregory hit an inside the park home run, scoring three runs giving Sundown the early 3-1 lead.
Sundown added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Gregory doubled, and Destiny Garza singled, each scoring one run.
Breigh Gregory earned Sundown the win after she only gave up one hit and one run over seven innings, striking out five and walking one.
The Roughettes tallied 13 hits in the game as Brynly Gregory and Breigh Gregory were a factor in their teams win as they each collected three hits for Sundown.
Camry Jourden collected two hits for Sundown in four at bats in the game as well.
The Sundown Roughettes progress to 17-3-1 on the season while remaining undefeated in district play with a perfect 4-0 record against Ralls and Olton.
The Roughettes next game of district play is against the Sudan Hornets April 1st at home at 5 p.m. then again April 6th as the visiting team at 11 a.m.
