One fatality following Cochran County wreck

A Wednesday morning crash in Cochran County resulted in the death of a teen from Hobbs, N.M.

According to a report from the Texas Department Public Safety, 19-year-old Maria De Guadalupe Barraza of Hobbs was traveling north on FM 1780 around 2:36 a.m. in a 2016 Ford Mustang.

Roughly 10 miles from southwest Sundown, the preliminary investigation stated before reaching Wrangler Road, Barraza traveled northeast into the east ditch and into a field on the east side of the highway.

The vehicle traveled through the field and traveled northeast across Wrangler Road. The vehicle went into another field east of FM 1780 and rolled before coming to a stop.

Barraza was pronounced deceased due to the injuries sustained during the crash. The report stated Barraza was not wearing a seatbelt.
