The truck driving simulators used in SPC’s Professional Truck Driver Training at the Reese Center received updated software that will simulate transit bus driving.
The software update came through a partnership with SPC, Citibus, City of Lubbock and the Lubbock Economic Development Alliance (LEDA).
“Citibus, City of Lubbock and LEDA invested $26,000 in updating all four of SPC’s simulators from Virage Simulation,” Chris Mandrell, general manager of Citibus, said. “This investment in training technology reflects our commitment to employee recruitment and retention and underscores our dedication to community safety. With this enhancement, drivers and new employees at Citibus can efficiently train for their Commercial Driver’s License and as transit bus operators on the simulators, ensuring they are well-prepared to provide safe transportation to our community. We are extremely appreciative of all the partners that came together to make this happen.”
“This software upgrade made possible by Citibus will enable their professional drivers to train in a controlled environment and develop driving skills before getting behind the wheel of a bus on public streets,” Jay Warnick, SPC director of Continuing Education and Workforce Development, said.
“These state-of-the-art simulators were purchased to help train our workforce to drive trucks and other similar vehicles in weather and geographic conditions that are not always readily available in Lubbock,” John Osborne, LEDA president and CEO, said. “Expanding the training for transit bus driving will enable us to have a talented and trained workforce necessary for even more occupations in our growing city.”
