Levelland ISD swears in elected board members

During the last regular meeting for the 2024 school year, the Levelland ISD Board of Trustees started their Tuesday meeting with electing their new officers following the results of the 2024 General Election earlier in the month.

The group swore in board members Brooke Obenhaus and Treva Potter who both ran unopposed for their seats. Elections were also held with Carrie Ellis being re-elected as president while Joyce Johnson was elected as vice-president and Potter being elected as the office of secretary.

The board was presented an action item regarding the purchase of Childhood Nutrition Program equipment. The board called on Sodexo Food Manager Steve Croyle to provide additional information. Croyle explained that a bulk of the equipment is old and nearly 90% of everything in the kitchens is original equipment.

This is a purchase to replace ageing equipment in each campus in the school cafeteria. The purchase is being made through requested proposals, which fulfills the district’s competitive purchase requirements. This purchase will be limited to the funds in Child Nutrition Fund 240 designated by TDA as Excess net cash. The board approved the item.

Several other items were approved which included a quote for Eureka, which is the math curriculum in the amount of $55,000. The curriculum is for kindergarten through fifth grade students. All items that have a price exceeding $50,000 must be presented to the board for approval which was passed with no discussion.

The school board is a member of the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB). At the TASA/TASB annual fall convention, a delegate assembly is held to conduct business and formulate policies for the organization. Each school district’s Board of Education is entitled to select one delegate and one alternate delegate to the assembly. The board selected as Joyce Johnson their TASA/ TASB. Mike Stafford was elected as the alternate.
