Ropes Eagles end season against Hawley

The Ropes Eagles took on the Hawley Bearcats this past Thursday in Midland where the Eagles lost in two games to end their season at 24-8. 

Hawley 6, Ropes 3 

For the team’s first game of the series Ropes fell 6-3 to the Bearcats after seven innings. 

Hawley was the first team on the board after runners interference was called, making the score 1-0 early for the Bearcats. 

The Bearcats extended their lead in the bottom of the third inning after their batter hit a single on a line drive to left field, scoring one run and a balk by Bode Franklin scored another run for Hawley, making the score 3-0. 

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Hawley extended their lead by another two runs after two runners stole home making the score 5-0. 

The Bearcats got their final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning after their batter singled on a ground ball to center field, scoring one run to make the score 6-0. 

Ropes had all three of their runs come at the top of the seventh inning after Brady Bryan singled on a line drive to center field, scoring one run, Branson Simental stole home and Mason Marmolejo scored on a wild pitch to make the final score of the game 6-3. 

Bode Franklin started on the mound for the Eagles as he gave up three hits and five runs (five earned) over four innings, striking out five and walking seven. Cutter Stumbo appeared in relief for Ropes as he gave up three hits and one run (one earned) over two innings, striking out two and walking two. 

Bryan led the Eagles with one run batted in while going 2-for-3 on the day while also leading the team with two stolen bases. The team as a whole had four throughout the game. Ropes didn’t committ a single error in the field while Bryan had the most chances in the field with eight. 

Hawley 13, Ropes 3 

For the last game of the series Hawley took the game away from the Eagles after they dominated the first inning. 

Hawley was the first team on the board early after they scored nine runs in the top of the first inning. One batter hit a double, scoring two runs, an error scored two runs, a batter was struck by a pitch, driving in one run, another batter grounded out, scoring one run, a batter hit a double, scoring two runs and the last batter hit a single, scoring one run. 

In the bottom of the first inning, Ropes was able to get one run to go for them after Kade Franklin hit a single on a ground ball to send in Marmolejo to make the score 9-1. 

The Bearcats extended their lead in the top of the second inning after their batter hit a double on a line drive to left field, scoring two runs to make the score 11-1. 

The Eagles answered with another run of their own in the bottom of the second inning after Maddux Sierra scored on a steal of home to make the score 11-2. 

Hawley got their final runs of the game in the top of the sixth inning after their batter hit a single, scoring one run and an error by the Eagles, scored another run to make the score 13- 2. 

The final run of the Eagles season came from a single by Kucel on a line drive to center field, scoring one run to make the final score of the game 13-3 after six innings. 

Kade Franklin started on the mound for the Eagles as he gave up six hits and eight runs (six earned) over one inning, striking out none and walking one. 

Elijah Flores appeared in relief for Ropes as he gave up seven hits and two runs (two earned0 over four innings, striking out none and walking one. 

Sierra also appeared in relief for the Eagles as he gave up two hits and two runs (two earned) over one inning, striking out none and walking one. 

The Eagles accumulated 11 hits throughout the game. Kade Franklin and Kucel were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in one run for the team. Braxxin Partington, Flores and Sierra each collected multiple hits for the Eagles. Marmolejo stole two bases in the game. Ropes turned in one double play in the game. 

The Ropes Eagles finish off their season as Bi-District, Area and Regional Quarter-Final Champs on the year while going 24-8 on the season finishing second in district play.
