The City of Sundown Library is in full swing for the “Adventure Begins at Your Library” statewide summer reading program.
With a goal of 80 readers participating, after the first month, they are within 30 readers of that goal. Weekly events include programs such science activities, arts programs, and educational opportunities.
On June 9, Llano Estacado Underground Water Conservation District Education and Outreach Coordinator Michelle Cooper hauled the special hands-on trailer to the Sundown Library to share more about how to conserve water and about our aquifer. StoryTime children as well as summer school students walked through the trailer for a unique experience.
Library Director, A’ndrea McAdams, has filled the library’s event calendar full with a variety of subjects and activities to allow the community to be busy learning throughout the summer. A calendar of events can be viewed on their website at sundown.ploud.net, through their instagram profile, or by coming by 201 E. Fifth in Sundown for a printed brochure. An upcoming event will be the Life-Saving Skills presentation by the American Heart Association on June 20 at 2 p.m. Not only will this program help you to SPOT a stroke, thanks to a grant from the FMH Foundation, each household will receive a CPR at-home training kit with a delayed honor of CPR awareness week.
McAdams said, “Since we do not have an official ambulance service in our town, we have seen how having residents who can administer CPR can save a life while the emergency responders get here. Our local first responders are fantastic and we are thankful for them, but household education can also make a huge impact.”
Also available will be health outreach representatives from the Texas Department of Health and Human Services. The Sundown Library is making intentional efforts to increase health awareness and access to care for families, veterans, and school staff.
The Library is openopen Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. The phone number is 806-2143099.
