ANOTHER DAY WITH DOM!

I hope all of our readers and community is doing well.

The summer is in full effect with these absurd temperatures hitting triple digits when we are barely ending the first week of July.

I know we are all tough and eat bowls of nails for breakfast every morning, but I hope everyone prioritizes their safety during this heat. That includes a lot of our blue collar workers and producers. While I was attending Texas Tech I worked as a private jet fueler and also fueled airlines for the airport in Lubbock.

My first summer working a 10 to 12 hour shift on a slab of concrete with nothing but jet engines roaring and nonbreathable clothes taught me a lot.

After my first summer, I was able to get used to the type of heat I continously faced but that did not keep me out of the weeds when it came to heat exhaustion and dehydration. Protect yourselves. Our bodies are our greatest asset which allow us to do the things we love. Stay cool and enjoy the summer warmth.

Additionally, I hope everyone enjoyed their Fourth of July holiday break if you were able to take one.

More importantly, I hope everyone is still in a position to say they have all 10 fingers coming out of the holiday break.

I think it is funny the way my thinking has evolved over the years. When July 4 or New Years rolls around all I can think about is the county not burning down or someone setting fire to their block.

While Hockley County is not under a burn ban, the amount of dry fuel that surrounds us could go up in flames if one mistake is had. I am not saying I have put myself in that situation but I have seen some things. When a group of high school boys each put their one brain cell together, it can be amazing the stupidity achieved.

I am writing this before Thursday, so I hope everyone exercised appropriate caution and enjoyed one anothers company.

Although we are experiencing extreme heat, I hope that does not deture community members from enjoying themseleves in the early morning or evening.

I always suggest visiting the various parks throughout Levelland or even the City Pool which is in full swing. I also see individuals and families fishing at both lakes during the evenings when I drive by.

There is a lot of effort being put into to create these quality of life experiences for the community and to see it come to life is great.
