Hockley Commissioners approve new agreements

The Hockley County Commissioners approved several new agreements during their Monday meeting.

The group began the meeting with the approval of minutes from the previous two meetings held last Monday which was also considered a budget meeting.

The monthly bills and claims were approved by the court before hearing the monthly Public Assistance Report.

Cara Phelan provided the report which included with six requests for public assistance. Of those requests, four were approved and two were denied due to being over income.

Additionally, there were two utility requests and two rental requests for a total of $600 this past month.

Phelan also informed the court that she had a meeting with FEMA on Friday where she was told the organization had approved 1,181 ballot registrations and paid out over $2 million in funds.

Moving forward, the court approved an agreement with McCasland Dental to include indigent healthcare clients for dental services.

Phelan explained that Abbeville Dentistry contacted her to let her know they would no longer be accepting Medicare payment and would only be accepting 25 percent across the board.

Two separate agreements were approved, one for the jail and one for indigent care.

The commissioners also approved donations to the Hockley County Memorial Library from Swackhmmers Texas Grill in the amount of $100 and State Farm Insurance in the amount of $50.

The court reviewed the March, April, May and June 2024 fire runs submitted by the City of Levelland.

The commissioners along with Hockley County Judge Sharla Baldridge had mutual aid questions about multiple fire runs that included Lamb County and Cochran County.

Before approving the fire runs, Judge Baldridge said she would seek out additional information for those fire runs that may be considered mutual aid.

Next, the group considered approving the 2025 contract and agreement dealing with ambulance service between the City of Littlefield and Hockley County. The item was approved with little discussion.

An application was submitted by the Wallace Theater to request the use of the courthouse lawn on July 31 and August 1 for the Cowboy Arts Camp from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. each day. The court approved the item as well.

The group finished the meeting by approving the Official Bond and Oath of Debra C. Bramlett, Hockley County Tax Assessor-Collector.
