Whitharral Lady Panthers start district undefeated

The Whitharral Lady Panthers are off to a hot start as they are undefeated in district play with wins over Cotton Center and Wellman-Union.

Whitharral 73, Cotton Center 19

For the Lady Panthers district opener they took on the Cotton Center Lady Elks last Friday at home where they won 73-19.

Whitharral was in control from the jump taking a 21-point lead in the first quarter, outscoring Cotton Center 27-6 going into the second quarter.

For the second quarter it was more of the same thing as Whitharral offensively couldnt be stopped putting up another 22 points while holding Cotton Center to two points, making the score 49-8, going into the halftime break.

Leading the Lady Panthers in scoring at the halftime break was Paige Smith with 18 points, 10 of those points from inside the arch.

The second half was slower for both teams as Whitharral had outscored Cotton Center in the third quarter 17-2 and was outscored in the fourth quarter 97, winning the game overall 73-19.

Smith led the Whitharral Lady Panthers in scoring with 32 points, Rylee Kristinek had 17 points, Denae Sansom and Trinity Coronado both had six points a piece, Madi Chavez had five points, Sheridan Neal had four points and Elizabeth Reyna finished with two points on the night.

Whitharral 67, Wellman- Union 20 For the Whitharral Lady Panthers second district game of the season they took on the Wellman-Union Lady Cats where they won in another blowout 6720.

The Lady Panthers offense was off to another hot start as they put up 20 points while holding the Lady Cats to only five points, taking a 15 point lead going into the second quarter.

Whitharral had their highest scoring quarter of the game in the second quarter with 31 points scored, while they held Wellman-Union to 10 points to take a 51-15 lead going into the halftime break.

Smith led the Lady Panthers in scoring at the half once more with 29 points at the half.

The second half of the game was uneventful as the Lady Panthers let up off the gas and played their bench which still put up 16 points in the second half while still holding the Lady Cats to five points to take the district win.

Smith finished with 32 points on the night leading Whitharral in scoring, Kristinek had another 13 points, Chavez and Valeria Frias both finished with eight points a piece and three Lady Panthers finished with two points a piece in Neal, Sansom and Reyna.

The Whitharral Lady Panthers progress to 14-7 on the season while remaining undefeated in district play with a 2-0 record. The Lady Panthers next game of the season is against the Meadow Lady Broncos this Tuesday at home at 6 p.m. after they faced-off against the Amherst Lady Dogs this Friday on the road.
