The Whitharral Lady Panthers took on the Cotton Center Lake Elks on the road this past Tuesday night where they completed the sweep of the Lady Elks 65-16.
The start of the game for the Lady Panthers couldn’t have gone better as they held Cotton Center scoreless in the first while putting up 27 points of their own, taking a huge lead going into the second quarter.
In the second quarter it was more of the same as the Lady Panthers outscored the Lady Elks again, this time 18-3, extending their lead to 45-3 heading into the halftime break.
Leading the Whitharral Lady Panthers in scoring at the half was Paige Smith with 19 points, 14 of them in the first quarter.
The third quarter was slow for both teams as their defenses were showing up and doing work, Whitharral still outscored Cotton Center 7-4 though heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Whitharral was able to put the game away and take the district win, outscoring the Lady Elks 139 to end the game.
Smith led the Lady Panthers in scoring on the night with 27 points. Sheridan Neal and Rylee Kristinek both finished with nine points a piece, Elizabeth Reyna and Valeria Frias both had eight points a piece and both Denae Sansom and Trinity Coronado finished with two points a piece in the team’s win.
The Whitharral Lady Panthers are still undefeated in district play with a perfect 6-0 record as they get ready to take on the Amherst Lady Bulldogs this Tuesday at home at 6 p.m. after they went against the Wellman-Union Lady Cats this past Friday on the road.
