Antonio ‘Tony’ Mendez

    Graveside services for Antonio "Tony" Mendez will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, October 14, in the City of Levelland Cemetery, under the direction of Head Duarte Funeral Home of Levelland.
    Visitation will be held from 6 p.m until 8 p.m. Thursday, October 13, at Head Duarte Funeral Home Chapel.

A memorial service for Antonio “Tony” Molina Mendez, 65, of Levelland, will be held at a later date, with Legacy of Love Hospice Chaplin Mike Kelly officiating, under the direction of Head Duarte Funeral Home of Levelland.

He passed away October 1, 2022, in Levelland. Antonio was born June 25, 1957, to Guadalupe and Sara Mendez, in Lubbock. He was a wonderful son, brother and uncle. Tony enlisted into the United States Army December 19, 1975; he was considered a “bonus baby.”

Tony was stationed in Hawaii where he attended Wahiawa Community School and obtained his GED. He also served tours in Guam, Kaiya and Australia. On December 19, 1979, he received his honorable discharge and was awarded an Indirect Fire Infantryman medal, Sharpshooter Qualification Badge and a Good Conduct medal.

Tony worked for Derek Scott Building Construction Company as a contractor for many years.

He enjoyed building things, especially bird houses; listening to a variety of music; reading and studying his Bible; painting and watching old movies.

Tony especially enjoyed spoiling all of his nieces and nephews and buying them lots of candy.

The family would like to give recognition to Legacy of Love Hospice, especially to his attending medical nurses: Michelle, Jessica, Jayla, Christina and Chaplain Mike.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Guadalupe and Sara Mendez; five brothers: Guadalupe Mendez, Henry Mendez, Porfirio Mendez, Siemon Mendez and Aurelio (Bobo) Mendez; and two sisters, DoraMendezandGenevaRendon.

He is survived by his sisters: Irene Mendez of Levelland, Yolanda (Marvin) Gavina of Hereford, Maria Mendez of Levelland and Nina (Ricardo) Alegria of Lubbock; brothers: Bobby (Julie) Mendez, Tomas (Debra) Mendez and George (Susanna) Mendez, all of Levelland; and Justo “Gus” Mendez and Larry (Delores) Mendez, both of Lubbock and Adam (Glady) Mendez of Ohio; and sisters-in-law, Bernadine Mendez and Rosa Mendez.
