Johnnie Reba Hittson

Johnnie Reba Hittson, a longtime resident of Levelland, entered heaven’s gates early Saturday, November 5, 2022, near Aransas Pass, Texas, after a brief illness. She was embraced by many family members through her final days. Reba’s father, John Bates, knew for sure that the baby his wife, Pearl, was carrying was a boy and named the child, Johnny.

Aug. 30, 1930 - Nov. 5, 2022

1930, in Merkle, Texas. Reba spent her youth as a tomboy and farmer’s daughter, growing up in the rural areas of Merkle and O’Donnell. She married Jesse Robert Hittson and settled in Levelland.

Reba worked in Levelland in the hospital administration office, a local bank and later, as a seamstress teaching quilting classes in the Lubbock area. Many referred to her as the “Queen Seamstress.” She loved teaching sewing and quilting to her grandchildren, family and friends. Reba took up golfing in later years and really enjoyed the sport. She was able to tour the Southeast United States golf courses with a dear friend. Reba enjoyed playing Skip-Bo with her family and watching the Golf Channel and QVC as pastimes. She is survived by her sister, Jewel; son, Jesse Dan; daughters, Karen and Melinda; several grandchildren; and greatgrandchildren; and Abbie, her sweet Maltese dog. Everyone loved coming home for the Holidays to enjoy the delicious food and her special cornbread dressing and pecan pies. Reba was a longtime member of Cactus Drive Church of Christ in Levelland. A family gathering is being planned to celebrate her life.
