In loving memory of Glen Smith

GLEN SMITH

Glen Smith (age 96), passed from this life to his heavenly home with Jesus on Aug. 13, 2026, at Wheatfields Estates in Clovis, NM. He was born on Jan. 14, 1930, near Hereford, Texas (Deaf Smith County) to Harold Main Smith and Willie Vanzoe Vaughn. When Glen was 11 years old, his mother led him to the Lord, and he made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and was baptized in a rock tank outside of Hereford. He graduated from Plains High School in 1947. In the spring of 1948, Glen rededicated his life to the Lord and felt God’s call to preach. In August of 1948, Glen enlisted in the Air Force, and after basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas and Shepherd AF Base in Wichita Falls, he was assigned to Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska. During this time, God affirmed His calling to be a preacher. After serving two years in the USAF, Glen requested and was granted an early release so he could move back to Texas and attend Wayland Baptist College to study to become a minister. This was where he met and fell in love with (Moyna) Faye Cupp. They married on June 16, 1951, and over the next 10 years were blessed with five children.

Glen and Faye surrendered their lives to God and together ministered to several congregations and communities in Texas. In 1953, Glen and Faye felt God’s call to move to California to complete their education at the newly opened California Baptist College. Faye graduated in 1954 with the first graduating class, and Glen received his BA degree in 1956. After six years serving in churches in California, the Smith family moved back to Texas, where they continued their ministry.

After both Glen and Faye retired from preaching and teaching school, they became active in volunteer work with the Texas Baptist Men, and especially with TBM Builders. This is a type of volunteer work which involves mostly retired seniors and all kinds of work are done: building new buildings, remodeling and repair, cleaning, flunky work, office help, etc.— anything that camps, churches, children’s homes, etc. need having done. They travelled in their own 5thwheel travel trailer and worked for no salary. They did this for more than 17 years.

In 2017, after their health started to fail, they moved from their home in Sundown, Texas to Lubbock, TX. In 2023, they moved to Wheatfields Senior Living in Clovis, NM.

Faye, Glen’s precious wife of almost 75 years, preceded him in death on April 28, 2026. Glen is survived by all 5 of his children: Sharman (Steve) Graham of Irving, TX; Phyllis (Bruce) Bridges of Canyon, TX; Becky (Wayne) Anderson of Clovis, NM; Karen Smith of Littlefield, TX; and Byron Smith of Sundown, TX. He had 12 grandchildren: Aimee Bird, Jennie Pence, Heather Gundling, Erin Byers, Robin Musick, JC Bridges, David Anderson, Steven Anderson, Trey Alair, Jesse Alair, Bryce Smith and Weston Smith. Glen and Faye also had 23 greatgrandchildren.

There will be a family memorial service for both Glen and Faye at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to New Mexico Baptist Children’s Home.
