The west team put a 68-28 shellacking on the east team in the Texas Six Man Coaches Association All Star Division 1 football game last Saturday and Whiteface’s Brighton Scoggins got to be a part of the action.
The west led 22-8 at the end of the first quarter and 47-22 at half-time. The east didn’t score again until on 1:40 remained in the game.
Scoggins was part of a Whiteface team that finished at 9--3 overall with a 3-0 district record and both a district and bi-district championships.
“Brighton was a key part of our success last year,” said Whiteface Head Football Coach Clint Linman.
“He is a great young man and a joy to coach,” continued Linman, who was at the game. “I was glad to get to watch him play one last time.”
He was named all district tight end on offense and Defensive Most Valuable Player, averaging nearly four tackles a game. He was selected in Region II as an all-region defensive lineman.
Scoggins was particularly effective on short yardage. He had 118 yards on 27 carries and 154 yards on 13 catches, with nine touchdowns interposed in them.
Scoggins plans to complete his basic requirements at South Plains College before transferring to Texas Tech.
