Area baseball teams run rule opponents

The Smyer Bobcats downed the visiting Borden County Coyotes 14-4 over six innings in a run rule shortened UIL high school baseball game last Monday.

The run rule states that a game ends when the home team is up by 10 runs or more after 4 ½ innings or the visiting team is up by the same amount after five innings.

Kaden Price took the win for the Bobcats, giving up three runs in the first inning before settling in and allowing only one additional run on a total of eight hits with six strikeouts and four walks over five innings.

Shaun Barrett allowed one hit in an inning of relief.

Smyer matched Borden County’s production in the first inning and neither team scored a run in the second.

Smyer scored a run in the third inning, then the Bobcat bats came alive in the fourth with three runs, followed by four in the fifth and three in the sixth.

Barrett had three hits, three runs and an RBI. Austin Martinez had three hits, two runs and an RBI.

Colton Burris had a hit and three runs. Matheu Corder had a run.

Aiden Martinez had three hits, a run and four RBIs. Caleb Clausen had a hit and a run. Price had two hits, a run and four RBIs. Ben Steele had an RBI. Brodie Medart had a hit.

Skyler Pond had a hit, a run and an RBI.

The Bobcats will be in Tahoka on Tuesday for a 5 p.m. game.

Eagles

The Ropes Eagles took a four run lead in the top of the first inning on their way to a 14-2 run rule shortened road win over the Seagraves Eagles in UIL District 4-2A High School Baseball action last Tuesday.

The run rule requires a game to be called when the visiting team is ahead by 10 or more runs after the fifth inning.

Bode Franklin took the win for Ropes. He went three innings with no hits, not runs, six strikeouts and one walk.

Garrett Gilliam gave up two hits and one run with five strikeouts and a walk in two innings of relief.

Mason Marmolejo had three runs, two hits and an RBI. Branson Beck had three runs, a hit and four RBIs.

Hunter Torres had two runs and a hit. Logan Delgado had two runs two hits and two RBIs.

Braxxin Partington had two runs, four hits and two RBIs. Kade Franklin had two hits and two RBIs.

Stetson Wims had a run and three hits. Gilliam had a run and a hit.

Ropes will host New Home on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
