The Ropes Eagles downed the visiting Smyer Bobcats 55-31 in UIL high school boys’ basketball action last Tuesday.
It took nearly 2 ½ minutes for either team to score. Ropes got first blood and led 4-0 midway through the first quarter.
Smyer came barreling back on a three point shot from Gio Garcia. Nate Brooks answered with a Ropes basket, then Bobcats Ethan Morris hit two on the return trip.
A final basket by the Eagles’ Landon Nale made the score 8-5 for Ropes at the end of the first.
The Eagles jumped out on a 5-0 run early in the second period, then padded their lead until they led 25-12 at half-time.
The third quarter score was 35-21 for the Eagles. A big Ropes fourth quarter finished the Bobcats.
Nale led the Eagles with 12 points. Brady Bryan was also in double figures with 10. Brooks had eight points. Kade Franklin and Garrett Gilliam had six each. E.J. Mendez had four. Brennan Bearden, Braxxin Partington and Reese Williams had three each.
Shawn Barrett led the Bobcats with eight points. Jaylin Cisneros had seven. Gio Garcia had six. Cameron Gutierrez and Ethan Morris had four each while Drew Overstreet had two.
The Eagles are in the Anton Tournament this weekend while the Bobcats are in the Nazareth Tournament.
