The Ropes Eagles couldn’t find enough runs to overcome a late rally from the New Home Leopards in an 8-4 UIL District 42A High School Baseball road game last Saturday.
Mason Marmolejo started on the mound for the Eagles, going six innings, allowing four runs on six hits, walking two and striking out seven. Logan Delgado had two innings of relief, allowing four runs on two hits with two walks. Kade Franklin had finished the game with two strikeouts and a walk.
New Home led 3-0 after the first inning, but the Eagles rallied in the third to tie the score. A Leopard run in the fifth was matched by a Ropes run in the top of the sixth.
The Eagles were not able to match New Home’s four run rally in the bottom of the sixth.
Marmolejo had a run and a hit. Hunter Torres had a hit. Garrett Gilliam had a run and an RBI. Nate Brooks had two runs.
The Eagles will host Smyer on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Roughnecks
The Sundown Roughnecks ran roughshod over the Seagraves Eagles in a 28-7 UIL District 4-2A road win last Saturday.
Hunter Tindol had some problems on the mound, but took the win. He allowed five runs on three hits with four walks in 2/3 inning of work. Isaac Lopez gave up two runs on one hit with two strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings and Jaxon Rodriguez closed the Roughnecks out with a strikeout in one inning.
Sundown led 6-0 in the top of the first, but Seagraves cut the lead to 6-5 during their turn at bat. The Roughnecks put up another six in the second inning, but Seagraves put up two of their own for a 12-7 Sundown lead at the end of two innings.
The Sundown bats put Seagraves away in the third with 16 runs.
Jayson Martinez had four runs, two hits and an RBI. Koy Torres had four runs, four hits and three RBIs. Jeffrey Rodrigues had a run. Tindol had four runs, three hits and an RBI. Rodriguez had three runs, three hits and four RBIs.
Jaryn Flores had two runs and two hits. Lopez had three runs, a hit and three RBIs. Rian Rose had two runs, two hits and two RBIs. Rayden Flores had a run, two hits and three RBIs. Hunter Clark had two runs, a hit and an RBI.
