The Ropes Eagles varsity baseball team went 2-0 last weekend with decisive wins in UIL District 4-2A high school action.
In the first match-up, the Eagles downed the visiting Tahoka Bulldogs 12-0 last Friday in a five inning game shorted by the run rule.
The run rule states that when a team is ahead by 10 or more runs by the end of the fifth inning (or 4 ½ innings in the case of the home team) the game is called.
The Eagles scored three runs in the first inning, eight in the third and the final run in the fourth.
Bode Franklin was the winning pitcher, going all five innings with no hits, no runs, 10 strikeouts and three walks.
Mason Marmolejo had two runs, two hits and two RBIs. Garrett Gilliam had two runs. Braxxin Partington had a hit and an RBI.
Logan Delgado had a run, a hit and an RBI. Hunter Torres had two runs and an RBI. Kade Franklin had a run, two hits and an RBI.
Nate Brooks had two runs, a hit and an RBI.
Branson Beck had a run and two RBIs. Brady Bryan had a run and an RBI.
On Saturday, the Eagles were in Smyer, winning 15-1 in a sixinning game shortened by the run rule.
Smyer’s only run came in the bottom of the third inning when Shawn Barrett scored on a passed ball.
Ropes scored a run in each of the second, third, and fourth innings, then scored five runs in the fifth and seven in the sixth inning.
Mason Marmolejo was the winning pitcher. He went five innings, allowing three hits, one run, striking out nine and walking one. Garrett Gilliam had one strikeout in the final inning. Shawn Barrett was the losing pitcher.
He lasted 2 1/3 innings, allowing two runs with a strikeout and a walk.
Christian Hernandez gave up a hit and two runs while striking out one and walking three in 2/3 inning of relief.
Aiden Martinez gave up two hits and four runs with four strikeouts and three walks in two innings. Caleb Clausen gave up three this and two runs with a strikeout in 2/3 innings and Skyler Pond worked 1/3 inning, giving up five runs on one hit with three walks.
The Bobcats played in Tahoka on Saturday while Ropes will hosted Muleshoe.
The Eagles are tied for first in the district with New Home.
Both teams each have an 8-1 district record.
