Grand slam not enough for SHS

A grand slam by Hunter Tindol wasn’t enough for the Sundown Roughnecks to knock off the visiting Ropes Eagles as Sundown fell 8-6 in UIL District 42A High School Baseball action.

The Roughnecks finish 7-5 and the Eagles finish 11-1 in district. Complicating matters are the 11-1 New Home Leopards and the 7-5 Smyer Bobcats.

All four teams are playoff bound. Seeding games and playoff assignments will be decided this weekend.

Tindol’s grand slam put the Roughnecks up 4-1 in the bottom of the third. Sundown added another run in the fifth.

Ropes scored four runs int the top of the fifth to tie the score at 5, then scored two more in the top of the sixth.

Ropes cut the lead to 8-7 in the bottom of the sixth, but the Eagles added an insurance run in the seventh.

Hunter Torres started on the mound for Ropes. He gave up four runs on two hits with four strikeouts and six walks.

Logan Delgado gave up two runs on two hits with seven strikeouts and two walks to get the win for Ropes in 3 1/3 innings of relief.

Bode Franklin got a save with two strikeouts and a walk over 1 2/3 innings. Jeffrey Rodrigues gave up five runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and a walk over four innings for the Roughnecks.

Isaac Lopez had two strikeouts and a walk while allowing three runs on two hits over two innings. Koy Torres had a strikeout while allowing one hit in one inning of relief.

Jaryn Flores had two runs for Sundown. Torres had a run, a hit and an RBI. Jeffrey Rodrigues and Jaxon Rodriguez had a hit each.

Tindol had a run, a hit and four RBIs. Marcus Solis had a run and a hit.

Mason Marmolejo had two runs and a hit for Ropes. Garrett Gilliam had two runs, three hits and two RBIs.

Braxxin Partington had two hits and an RBI. Logan Delgado had two hits and two RBIs. Kade Franklin had a hit.

Torres had a run, a hit and an RBI. Brady Bryan had two runs, four hits and an RBI.
