Area FFA chapters in Hockley County sent students to the Area 1 Greenhand Leadership Conference held at West Texas A&M University (WTAMU) in Canyon.
The conference is designed to introduce first year, first semester 8th and 9th grade students entering a high school ag credit classroom for the first time to the benefits and opportunities in agricultural education, including supervised agricultural experiences and the FFA Organization.
Called “Greenhands,” the new ag students learn about the organization, leadership opportunities, and personal growth and attend workshops, hear motivational speakers, network with district and area officers.
The conference offers the opportunity to begin growth and develop as a student leader and servant in the FFA.
Chapters will grow from students who attend the conference and have experience of personal growth, and who will be ready to take on positions of influence within their chapters, as well as gaining confidence and competence that positively influence peers and encourage a new level of excitement.
Chapters attending often participate in community drives, such as bringing shoe coverings/ donations collected in labeled chapter containers.
