Hawley ends Eagles great season

The Ropes Eagles lost to Hawley two games to none in the UIL Regional High School Baseball Semifinals Thursday and Friday in Midland.

The Eagles’ end their season as district runners-up, bi-district champions and regional quarterfinal champions.

Hawley won game one 4-1. The Bearcats led 1-0 at the end of the first inning and sealed the Eagles’ fate with a three run third inning.

Mason Marmolejo took the loss, allowing seven hits and four runs with four strikeouts and two walks over 5 1/3 innings.

Kade Franklin had a strikeout and two walks over 1 2/3 innings of relief. Ropes’ only run came in the bottom of the third inning. Hayden Torres hit into fielder’s choice with one out and the bases loaded.

Hawley got Kade Franklin advancing to third, but that allowed Braxxin Partington to score.

Marmolejo had two hits. Garret Gilliam had a hit. Partington had a run and two hits. Logan Delgado had a hit.

Kade Franklin had a hit. Torres had an RBI.

Hawley took game two 9-0. They scored three runs in the second inning, then lit up the boards for six runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Torres took the loss, giving up six hits and eight runs with five strikeouts and four walks over five innings.

Kade Franklin gave up one hit and one run with a walk over an inning of relief. Marmolejo had two hits.

Gilliam, Nate Brooks, Brady Bryan and Bode Franklin each had a hit.
