The Ropes Lady Eagles hosted the Smyer Lady Cats for a district basketball matchup this past Tuesday night, resulting in the Lady Eagles winning 58-38.
The Lady Eagles took a 32-18 lead into halftime and would only build upon it in the second half in route to the blowout win.
“I’m so pleased with how we played tonight; we are finally putting together four quarters of intensity and high energy basketball,” Lady Eagles Head Basketball Coach Marianne Wolfe said. “Our youth is turning into maturity and confidence is building. I’m so happy for our girls and we are locked in on getting this postseason journey started.”
Scorers for the Lady Eagles included Brooklyn Hogg with 19 points behind three three-pointers made and a 2/2 free throw effort, Rylie Lester with eight points, Macie Lehnen and Annabelle Falls both with seven points, Zailyn Wylie and Sydney Brooks both with six points, Karli Rhoads and Ella Lehnen both with two points, and Alyssa Welch with one point.
The win improves the Lady Eagles to 21-10 overall and 9-3 in district play, which ties them for second in the 2A District 5 standings.
Due to the tie, the Lady Eagles will be facing off against the Sundown Roughettes over the weekend at Levelland High School. The winner of that matchup will receive the 2A District 5 Big School top playoff seed, which will determine the first-round playoff matchups for both schools.
Meanwhile on the Lady Cats side of things, the loss drops them to 20-10 overall and 6-6 in district play at the end of the regular season, which puts them fourth in the 2A District 5 standings, punching their playoff ticket.
Scorers for the Lady Cats included Ellie Nelson with 14 points behind two threepointers made, Rylee Riedel with nine points behind three three-pointers made, Jada Hernandez with seven points behind ¾ free throws made, Kaia Brandon with six points behind 4/6 free throws made and Kira Posadas with two points.
Following the loss, the Lady Cats will be back in action for their first-round playoff matchup against the Van Horn Lady Eagles on Monday at Wink High School at 6 p.m.
