The Levelland 9u Flag Football Team is kicking off their fall season this weekend at Summer Nationals in Frisco, Texas. As the class of 2035, their goal is to build a foundation for the future Lobo football team and become better people in the process.
“These young players are determined to compete with heart, give their best effort every time they step on the field and create memories that will last a lifetime,” Coach Mateo Lopez wrote. “Whether they’re playing under the lights at home or on one of football’s biggest stages in North Texas, they’ll proudly represent the Levelland name.”
This season, the nineyear-old teammates will have the opportunity to compete on big fields including The Star in Frisco and AT&T Stadium. Their next tournament is the NFL flag regionals, also in Frisco.
While they are growing as players, Lopez said he and coaches Eric Alcorta and Blake Penner, “try our best to develop them as leaders.”
“We want to instill integrity, discipline, teamwork and a variety of leadership principles that we discuss with them, so they can grow up to be good young men and contributing citizens to society,” Lopez said. “It goes beyond the sport. It goes into what they’re going to be doing as they get older and preparing them for that.”
The 9u team would like to give a shoutout to their sponsors who include Mojave, Walmart, the Golightly Family, CMMS CPAs & Advisors, Energy Fitness, Falcon Energy Services, Citizen Bank, Tienda’s Mexican Restaurant, The Land Family and Integrity. They also want to thank Levelland Athletic Director Lyle Leong for helping them along the way. “Without them, this would not be possible,” Lopez said. “Those sponsors have really stepped up and made it possible for us to be able to take [the players] without any expenses to the families, players or coaches.”
