LHS Baseball Coach Portwood is happy to share that senior Joel Pena is being honored as Lubbock AJ’s Lone Star Varsity Preseason Player of the Year!
This is such an honor for Pena as he is entering his fourth season as a starting varsity baseball player.
Peña wants to improve on a year in which he was named second-team all-state by the Texas Sports Writers Association and District 3-4A MVP.
Joel follows in his two brother’s footsteps on the field but is working a lot outside of school as well. He is building relationships with every single person on the team to have fun playing the game.
“This year, senior year, I’m taking everything seriously,” Peña said. “Last year I really kind of gave all my effort. This is the last time being able to play for my team. It means a lot. It’s giving my best. There’s something new every day.”
