Loboettes end season with two straight wins

The Levelland Loboettes closed out their volleyball season on a two-game win streak by sweeping Estacado at home this past Saturday.

The Loboettes won the three sets 25-16, 32-30 and 25-6, to end the season at 12-22 overall and 5-7 in district.

Several athletes performed well in the win, including junior outside hitter Mia Sepulbeda, who had 24 service points, five aces and five kills.

Senior middle blocker Trinity Wafer recorded nine kills, eight service points and one block, and senior outside hitter Hailee Estrada had eight kills and six service points.

And freshman setter London Branch recorded nine service points and a block.

They all played a pivotal role in Levelland’s domination of Estacado as they outscored them 52-24 on service points, 11-8 in aces and they also had less faults.

The win in their final district game tied them with Synder at 5-7 for the fourth and final playoff spot, but Snyder held the tiebreaker and had already clinched the spot before Saturday’s win.

It’s unfortunate to miss the postseason, but the Loboettes can still be proud reflecting back on what they accomplished under first year Head Coach Jai Madrid.

With a new coach, three freshmen on varsity and only having four seniors, there were a lot of moving parts to settle around this season, so all things considered, they did a great job.

One more win against Snyder and we’re talking about the postseason, but regardless, the Loboettes fought hard in district play and the statistics show it.

The team finished district play with 446 total service points, scoring on 50% of their serves, 108 aces, 350 kills and 41 blocks.

Among the biggest contributors to those stats was Trinity Wafer, who averaged a team leading 11.9 kills and 1.1 blocks, also averaging 5.8 service points and 1.6 aces.

Mia Sepulbeda led the team averaging 10.1 service points, also averaging six kills and 1.9 aces, while Hailee Estrada led the team averaging 2.6 aces, also averaging 8.5 service points and 6.7 kills.

Freshman standouts included opposite hitter Lola Potter, who averaged 3.3 kills and 2.5 service points, along with London Branch, who averaged five service points and 1.1 aces.

Kudos to those athletes for consistently stepping up in district play and being difference makers.

Congratulations to the Levelland Loboettes on an awesome volleyball season, where they were hard fought hard until the very end.

The Loboettes will return six out of 10 players next season, but their seniors Yara Carillos, Tiffany File, Hailee Estrada and Trinity Wafer will be missed.

Congratulations to all of them on amazing careers and best of luck moving forward.

For the other six returners, they now enter their offseason, where they can reflect on this season and improve to be better for the next.
