The Levelland Loboettes opened district play at home with a dominant outing against the Big Spring Lady Steers.
The Loboettes put together a shut out performance defensively and run-ruled the Lady Steers, 100.
Loboette Danica Rivera would control the circle, going all five innings only allowing three hits and four walks. Rivera would cap off her performance with eight strikeouts.
The bats for Levelland would come alive early, putting six runs on the board against Big Spring in the bottom of the first.
Saydi Mendoz would lead off for the Loboettes with a triple and score on a passed ball. Following the passed ball, Dalany Delgado would work the count and draw the walk on a six-pitch at bat.
Delgado would reach second and an error would allow Madilyn Barrientes to reach first following a routine pop fly. A single into left field from Adrianna Castellano would allow Delgado to score and Barrientes to reach third.
Castellano would have courtesy runner Tiffany File take her spot at first. File would steal second before Madi Seat would take first base by a hit-by-pitch. Yasmine Vargas would courtesy run for Seat.
With the bases loaded, Mari Reyna would earn a double after putting the ball in center field. Barrientes would score along with File, pushing the Loboette lead to 4-0. Vargas would advance to third.
A double into right field by Aubree Rivas would allow Vargas and Reyna to cross home plate making the score 4-0.
The Loboettes would add an additional run in the bottom of the third. Reyna would kick off the inning with a single before Rivera would hit a line drive single to left field allowing Reyna to score.
Two more runs would be added for Levelland in the bottom of the fourth. Barrientes would hit a double and score after a double by Castellano. A double by Reyna would allow Barrientes to score.
Leading 9-0, the last run would come in the bottom of the fifth. Rivera would reach first on a single and take second on a wild pitch. She would score on a double by Delilyah Paredez to finish the game.
Reyna would lead the Loboettes with three hits followed by Castellano and Rivera with two a piece.
Loboette Head Coach Adrian Holland was pleased with his squad’s performance to open district play.
“The girls came out and played solid,” said Holland. “The sticks finally came alive and played great defensively. We have been in a bit of a slump and to have these girls come out and put up 10 runs is great as we head into a tough road matchup against Snyder.”
Holland was proud of the effort Rivera showed in the circle as she found herself behind in the count several times against Lady Steer batters.
“To still put together a threehit shut out is great and normally she is on-point with her control of the zone,” said Holland. “For her to struggle today and still be able to get the job done is something I am satisfied with.”
The Loboettes took their talents to Snyder Friday for their second game of district play. The Lady Tigers were district champions last season. Stats are provided by GameChanger.
