The Levelland Lobos are on a two-game win streak as they dominated the Lake View Chiefs in San Angelo, 69-28, Tuesday to improve to 5-3 in district play and secure a playoff spot.
The Levelland Lobos got a hot start as they went on a 19-7 run through the first quarter and retained their offensive and defensive momentum through the remainder of the game.
By halftime, Levelland led 4915, holding the Chiefs to just five first half field goals.
Eryk Jones, Taeshaun Jones and Carson Boggs each finished with 10 points in limited time.
Jacob Garza and Jerry Haile scored eight each while Ethan Campos and Zameron LeCroy knocked in seven.
Jayden Castillo added five, Ladarian Jordan had three and Konner Alexander added one in the win. The Levelland Lobos moved to 15-14 on the season.
The win by the Lobos and a loss by the Snyder Tigers tie Levelland with Snyder in second place in the district.
Coming off their impressive win against Estacado last Friday, Levelland Head Coach Parker Hicks feels that his team has a positive momentum carrying them through the final stretch of district play.
“I think they’re just using that momentum and fuel from the previous Estacado game because it shows us how good we can be,” explained Coach Hicks. “Tuesday night it just seemed like they played with a lot of confidence and swagger. It was fun to watch and be a part of.”
The Lobos have to opportunity to climb the district ladder with their final two games of the district season.
Coach Hicks knows that he can rely on his senior group to stay focused and play one game at a time.
“What’s huge for us is we have eight seniors,” said Coach Hicks. “We have a lot of guys that understand we have to focus on the next game and face the opponent in front of us. We’ve been really good with this group in terms of that.”
Coach Hicks feels that his guys are mature enough to block out the noise and stay looking ahead in the proper manner.
“My goal is to have this team treat every game as if it is the championship,” said Coach Hicks. “We’re not looking at the playoffs or any of that stuff because we have games in front of us that deserve our attention.”
While the Lobos have secured a playoff spot, Coach Hicks and his squad are not satisfied with that. Finishing out the last two games in the district race, the Lobos have the potential to take the second spot.
