The Morton Indians went on the road to take on the Wheeler Mustangs this past Friday where they lost their first game of the season, 40-8.
It was a tough game for the Indians as they could not stop the Mustangs on the ground giving up 368 rushing yards and only 10 yards through the air.
Morton’s touchdown of the night was from a six-yard pass from Brayden Villarreal to E.J. Rivas.
Villarreal had a rough night passing the ball as he had 107 yards passing on the night with one touchdown and three interceptions. Dante Chavez completed a pass during the game for 18 yards.
The leading rusher for the Indians was Christian Enriquez who had 20 yards on the night.
Leading the team in receiving was Jaeden Alvarado who had four catches for 49 yards. Rivas had five catches for 33 yards and one touchdown, Lane Lyon had two catches for 22 yards, Cade Lyon had two catches for 21 yards and Enriquez had two catches during the team’s contest.
On the defensive side of the ball Cade Lyon had four tackles with 13 assists, Rivas had three tackles with two assists, Alvarado had two tackles with eight assists, Lane Lyon had two tackles with six assists, Villarreal had one tackle with eight assists, A.J. Mendoza had one tackle with one assist, Britton Boggs had one tackle with four assists, Enriquez had six assists, Hez Silvas had 11 assists, Luis Yanez had three assists, Bishop Keeling had two assists and Jorge Regalado had two assists.
Cade Lyon forced one fumble on the night as both Rivas and Mendoza had an interception in their contest.
The Morton Indians fall to 11 on the season as they get ready to take on the Eunice Cardinals from New Mexico this Friday at home at 7 p.m.
