Whitharral Panther head football coach Jeremy Holt is quick to give credit to others for his selection as UIL Class 1A-2 Region I coach of the year.
“I have a great staff and great kids,” said Holt, who finished his inaugural season as head coach with a 12-2 record.
The team also earned district, bi-district, area and regional championships.
The Panthers took the lion’s share of awards in Region I and District 2 football.
Senior Shamadrick Weaver was selected as both all-region and all-district offensive most valuable player, while Junior Nomar Gomez earned the same MVP honors on the defensive side.
Other regional and district awards included: Senior Ryan McDaniel was both all-region and all-district first team as a tight end and defensive lineman.
Senior Cason Wischkaemper earned all-region first team defensive lineman, all-district first team defensive lineman and second team all-district spread center.
Senior Kaden Smith was selected as all-region second team fullback and all-district first team running back.
Senior Jeryn Elerd was allregion second team quarterback and all-district first team quarterback.
Senior Dylin Villegas was alldistrict second team tight end.
Senior Jordan Torres earned honorable mention on the alldistrict team.
Junior Dawson Rodgers was all-region honorable mention for special teams as well as first team all-district offensive special teams and second team linebacker.
Junior Rayden Potter was alldistrict second team defensive lineman.
Junior Jarrett Fryar was alldistrict second team center.
Sophomore Jack Griffin was all-region and all district first team kicker and all-district second team cornerback.
Freshman Victor Saenz was selected as first team linebacker on the all-region team as well as first team all-district noseguard and second team wide reciever.
Freshman Brent Robins was all-region second team cornerback and all-district first team cornerback and second team utility back.
