Ropes defeats West Texas, 60-0

The Ropes Eagles wrapped up their non-district schedule with a 69-0 win over West Texas.

The Eagles head into district play at 5-0 and hope to capture their third straight district title.

“We’re going to get everybody’s best. When you’re at the top of the mountain, everybody is coming for you,” Ropes Head Coach Beau Riker said. “Hopefully we can go out and take care of business throughout district but we got to play one game at a time.”

District 2-2A consists of six teams: Ropes, Seagraves, Plains, Smyer, Sudan, Morton.

Currently, the Eagles have the best record out of the bunch, but Coach Riker knows this district will be competitive “There’s good teams out there,” Riker said. “Seagraves is a really good team. Plains is a really good team. I think Smyer and Morton are great teams as well, and Sudan, they’re always solid.

So we look forward to a good challenge in district.” Throughout the first five games, Ropes has emphasized the run game, totaling 32 through the ground, including nine versus West Texas. The Eagles also eclipsed 400 yards of rushing on their way to the 69-0 victory. Ropes (5-0) (0-0) will go head-to-head versus Plains (3-2) (0-0) to kick off district, another team that highlights the run game and looks to impose their physicality. Plains has gained , 978 rushing yards, while averaging 10 yards per carry and 25 touchdowns.

Plains run game has been led by Brandon Cantu, who is averaging 216.4 yards per game and is a consistent focal point for their triple-read option offense.

“They’re very talented in the backfield. They’re running triple option, so they’re hard to stop,” Riker said. “So you got to be disciplined, you got to do your job, and not try to do somebody else’s.”

Ropes will open their district game at home versus Plains at 7 p.m.
