Ropes softball opens inaugural season with 18-17 loss to Idalou

The Ropes Lady Eagles softball team played their first game in team history this past Monday night at Idalou, losing 18-17 across five innings. The Lady Eagles trailed 14-4 after the third inning, but they would show resilience in the final two innings, outscoring Idalou 13-4 and nearly pulling off the comeback win.

“I’m proud of the effort, growth and fight our girls showed,” Lady Eagles Head Softball Coach Joey Ybarra said. “We’re continuing to build and improve each game, and we’re excited about where this team is headed.”

The Lady Eagles offense posted 12 hits including six doubles, a triple and a home run, 13 walks and nine stolen bases, which is a stellar performance they can take confidence from moving forward.

Offensive standouts included Ezmeralda Saenz going 4/6 at the plate including a double, triple, five runsbatted-in and a stolen base, Braeden Reyna going ¾ including a home run, double, three RBI’s, two stolen bases and a walk, Marlee Molina going ¾ including three doubles, three RBI’s, two stolen bases and a walk, Allye Bandy going ½ including a double, RBI, a walk and three runs scored, and Camden Dodd with three walks, three runs scored and two stolen bases.

On the mound, Reyna pitched four innings, striking out five batters, and Molina pitched an inning.

Following their opener, the Lady Eagles continue in their inaugural season at Lockney on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
