The Ropes Eagles took on the Sunray Bobcats this past Friday for their UIL Baseball Playoff Area Round where the Eagles won in two games.
Ropes 8, Sunray 4
For the first game of the series Ropes was able to take the big 8-4 win over the Bobcats.
The first runs of the game were from the Eagles in the bottom of the first inning after the Bobcats committed an error, scoring one run and Braxxin Partington hit a fly out, scoring one run to make the score 2-0.
The Eagles added onto their lead in the bottom of the third inning after Kade Franklin singled and Brayden Hogg hit into a fielder’s choice, each scoring one run to make the score 4-0.
Ropes got the rest of their runs in the bottom of the sixth inning after they scored three runs on one error by Sunray and got their final run off of a fly out by Kanon Buckner to make the score 8-0.
8-0. Sunray got all four of their runs in the top of the seventh inning after two errors by the Eagles scored two runs and the Bobcats hit two singles, scoring two runs to make the final score of the game 8-4.
Bode Franklin earned the win for the Eagles as he gave up two hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out 14 and walking two in the game.
Cutter Stumbo appeared in relief for the Eagles as he gave up three hits and four runs (zero earned) over one inning, striking out three and walking one.
Kade Franklin drove the middle of the lineup, leading the team with three runs batted in as he went 1-for-3 on the day.
Mason Marmolejo led the Eagles with two hits in three at bats.
Ropes 3, Sunray 2
The second game of the series was close to as the Eagles were able to pull away at the end and become Area Champs.
Ropes was the first team on the board after Kade Franklin grounded out, scoring one run to make the score 1-0 in the top of the first inning.
Sunray answered back in the bottom of the third inning after Ropes committed an error, scoring one run to tie the game at one apiece.
The Eagles regained the lead in the top of the fifth inning after Marmolejo doubled on a line drive to left field, scoring one run and Brady Bryan hit a sacrifice bunt, scoring one run to make the score 3-1, giving Ropes the lead.
The last run for the Bobcats happened in the bottom of the fifth inning after Ropes committed an error, scoring one run to make the final score of the game 3-2, making Ropes moce onto the Regional Quarterfinal round of playoffs.
Kade Franklin earned the win for the Eagles as he gave up three hits and two runs (one earned) over seven innings, striking out 10 and walking two in the game.
Marmolejo led the team with four hits in four at bats for the Eagles. Bryan, Marmolejo and Franklin each drove in one run for Ropes. Marmolejo led the team in bases stolen with two in the game.
The Ropes Eagles progress to 22-6 on the season as they are Area Champions.
The Eagles get ready to take on the Clarendon Broncos this Thursday at 4 p.m. at Plainview with game two directly following game one. Game three will be Friday at 11 a.m. if needed.
