Roughettes outlast Lady Antelopes

    The Whiteface Lady Lopes endured a close 55-53 home loss to the Sundown Roughettes Tuesday night in UIL high school girls’ basketball action last Tuesday.

    The Lady Lopes, ranked 17th by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches in Class 1A, trailed 16-10 against the second ranked Class 2A Roughettes at the end of the first quarter.

    The second quarter was different as the Lady Lopes lit up the boards and took a 31-26 lead into the half-time locker room.

    The Roughettes were able to make up the difference in the third quarter on big three-point shots from Kaydence Loftin and Emma Holdman.

    The score at the third period buzzer stood at 42-40 for Sundown.

    The fourth quarter was a battle down to the wire with both teams scoring 13 points.

    Emma Ayers led the Lady Lopes with 20 points. Tymmyah Olenga had 15. Allison Martha had 13. Anais Soliz had three and Morgan Waggoner added two points.

    For the Roughettes, Emma Holdman had 17 points. Allie McCormick had 13. Aria Hogan had 11. Natalie Urias had nine and Lofton had five.

    The Lady Lopes are in the Borden County Tournament this weekend while the Roughettes are in Post on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. game.
