Sundown cant handle Plains at home

The Sundown Roughnecks hosted the No.5 Plains Cowboys this past Tuesday night in district play where the team fell 69-23.

For the first quarter of play it was a tough game off rip as Sundown found themselves in an early deficit trailing 17-6 at the end of the first quarter.

Heading into the second quarter of play things didn’t slow down for the Roughnecks as they were only able to get another six points to fall for them while giving up another 15 to the Cowboys going into the halftime break.

Going into the break the score was 32-12 with Plains leading.

Leading the Roughnecks in scoring at the half was Branson Sanders as he was able to get six points at the half with all of them coming from down low in the paint.

Headed into the third quarter of play Sundown would continue to struggle against the Cowboys as they were outscored 21-to-2 in the third trailing by a larger gap .

Headed into the fourth quarter of play the score sat at 53- 14 with Plains holding the commanding lead.

For the final quarter of play the Roughnecks would have their highest scoring quarter of play as they were able to get nine points to fall for them but allowed Plains to get 16 on their way out with the win.

Sanders led the team in scoring for the Roughnecks as he finished with 10 points throughout the night, all of them coming from inside the paint.

Briar Miller had six, Jayson Martinez had four and Watson Evans finished with three on the night.

The team was outdone on the backboards 43-to-25 as Plains crashed the boards every chance they had.

Sundown was able to force two turnovers on the night while giving the ball up an additonal 12 times in the game.

Sundown led the game in blocks as they were able to get five throughout the game while Plains were only able to get two.

Sundown shot the ball for 25% from the field while going 20% from long range. They shot the ball for 33% from the charity stripe as well.

The team falls to 2-3 in district play sitting along with the Seagraves Eagles tied up at fourth place in district.

The teams next game of the season will be against the Post Antelopes at home Tuesday, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
