It took some time for the Whiteface Antelopes to get rolling last Friday, but by the third quarter, they had downed the host Kress Kangaroos 56-7 in a mercy rule shortened UIL Class 1A 6-man football game.
The mercy rule is used in 6- man football and states that whenever one team is ahead by 45 points or more at or after halftime, the game is called
Whiteface only managed one touchdown in the first quarter, a 39-yard run by Ethan Kauffman. By halftime, however, the Antelopes were firmly in the lead 36-7. The third quarter saw the Antelopes score 20 points in quick succession, ending the game.
The Antelopes held Kress to 111 total yards with 120 in passing and minus nine on the ground. Whiteface had 201 yards rushing and 99 in the air.
Ethan Kauffman led all rushers with 164 yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries. Jeremiah Rendon had a single 20- yard touchdown carry. Julio Borunda had four carries for 17 yards.
Jeremiah Rendon went 4-for 6 passing for 99 yards and three touchdowns. Jeremias Chavez caught three of those passes for 80 yards and two touchdowns. Kauffman had on 19-yard touchdown catch.
Kauffman also had 7 ½ tackles. Jeremiah Rendon had five. Chavez had three. Noah Rendon had two. Jaxon Heflin had 1 ½. Auscar Gandara and Julio Borunda had one each.
The Antelopes, ranked fifth in UIL 6-man Division I and 21 st of all 6-man, 8-man and 9-man teams in the nation by MaxPreps, will be on the road against Springlake-Earth, ranked 11 th in division I, next Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
