Both the Whiteface girls’ and boys’ high school basketball teams came out as undefeated champions in the Way Out West Basketball Tournament in Whiteface over the weekend.
In addition, members of both teams were selected to the All-Tournament Team.
For the boys, Jeremiah Rendon and Jeremias Chavez were all-tournament. Brighton Scoggins was selected as Most Valuable Player.
On the girls’ side, Tymmyah Olenga and Emma Ayers were alltournament, while Allison Martha was selected as the Most Valuable Player.
The Whiteface Lady Lopes defeated the Loop Lady Longhorns 58-9 at noon on Thursday, while the boys downed the Loop boys’ team 69-16 in a 1:30 p.m. game.
Next on the agenda were the Hart Longhorns. The Lady Lopes downed the Hart girls 73-23 in a 6 p.m. game, while the boys won 66-37 in the 7:30 p.m. game.
Friday saw Whiteface at Friona in the evening games.
The Lady Lopes beat Friona’s girls 56-16 at 6 p.m.
The Antelopes downed the Chieftans 59-31 in the 7:30 game.
That put both Whiteface teams in the championship games on Saturday against Plains.
The girls won 46-35 in the 6 p.m. game and the boys won 6442 in the 7:30 game.
The Whiteface varsity basketball teams will be in the Borden County Tournament December 810.
