The Wallace Theater will mark its first anniversary since reopening with a three-day celebration Friday, Sept. 18, through Sunday, Sept. 20, featuring a special mayoral proclamation, an open house with free snacks, and a film festival with $1 movies.
The anniversary weekend will offer something for movie lovers of all ages, including the beloved family classic E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, John Wayne’s Academy Award-winning performance in True Grit, and the debut of Matter of Time, a new film directed by Levelland native Jeremy Snead.
“We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has helped make this first year possible, and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate than by inviting the community back to the Wallace,” said Alycyn Keeling, executive director of the Wallace Theater. “As we begin our second season, Stories by Starlight, we’re excited about what’s ahead and the opportunity to welcome even more people to experience the arts, entertainment and community connections that make the Wallace special.”
Filmmaker Jeremy Snead added, “Growing up in Levelland, the Wallace was one of those places where movies felt larger than life, so getting to come home and screen my film Matter of Time here is incredibly special to me. I’ve spent more than 20 years telling stories through film, but there’s something pretty surreal about bringing my first narrative feature back to the community where my love of movies began. I’m honored to be part of the Wallace’s anniversary celebration and excited to share the film with friends, family, and the people of Levelland.”
Friday, Sept. 18 – Wallace Theater Day
The anniversary celebration begins Friday morning with a Wallace Theater Day mayoral proclamation at 9:30 a.m. at the Wallace Theater, located at 823 Houston Street, in downtown Levelland.
The Wallace will also host an open house from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., with free anniversary cake and popcorn. The community is invited to stop by, visit the theater, and help celebrate the milestone.
Saturday, Sept. 19 – Film Festival
The celebration continues Saturday with $1 admission to two special screenings: 1 p.m. – E.T. the Extra- Terrestrial (1982) Steven Spielberg’s beloved family classic follows the friendship between a young boy named Elliott and a gentle extraterrestrial stranded on Earth. The Academy Award-winning film has remained a favorite for generations with its story of friendship, childhood, and finding the way home.
6 p.m. – Matter of Time (2026) The Wallace will host the debut of Matter of Time, a new film directed by Levelland native Jeremy Snead. After the screening, Snead will join a special audience Q&A about the film and his work as a filmmaker.
Sunday, Sept. 20 2 p.m. – True Grit (1969) The weekend concludes with the classic Western True Grit starring John Wayne as U.S. Marshal Rooster Cogburn, who joins a determined young woman seeking justice for her father’s murder. Wayne won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his iconic performance.
“Reopening the Wallace one year ago was the beginning of an exciting new chapter for this historic theater and for our community,” Keeling continued. “In our first year, we’ve welcomed 10,000 guests through our doors, presented 124 events, and sold more than 4,000 tickets. Most importantly, we’ve provided arts experiences for more than 2,000 Hockley County students thanks to the generosity of our community.”
