For the past six years, Brooke Barrett has been an advanced practice registered nurse, certified in family practice. This authorizes her to provide care for patients of all ages, from newborn onward, and to refer patients out if they require specialized care.
Barrett has been at Covenant in Levelland for the last 14 years, most recently working part-time at the Levelland Covenant Hospital’s weekend clinic. She is now coming onboard fulltime under Dr. Michael Bailey, her supervising physician.
“I’m really excited. I wanted to work in a rural setting because I knew it would allow me to get to know my patients better,” said Barrett. “I’ve been near Levelland my whole professional career, and this community has been good to me, so I’m excited to take a more active role in it.”
When asked what brought her into the industry, Barrett stated that she has alaways wanted to work in health care.
“I’ve always loved people and liked to interact with them, comfort them and talk to them in ways they understand. I believe that God’s been guiding me in this path.”
Barrett states her goal with this new position is to be as patient oriented as possible.
“What the patient wants and is comfortable with are extremely important. With health care constantly changing, I want to have knowledge about these changes that allow me to have conversations with my patients about their options. I want to be the provider that a patient is comfortable with, but also confident in, who will support them in their choices and not be biased, because there’s always room for discussion.”
