Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB) has awarded Keep Levelland Beautiful (KLB) one of the state’s most prestigious environmental honors—the 2025 Governor’s Community Achievement Award (GCAA).
This distinction recognizes the city's dedication to creating a cleaner environment for residents and engaging the community in efforts to beautify the city.
Mary Siders, President of the Levelland Chamber of Commerce, said Levelland has received its second Governor’s Community Achievement Award since 2020. This prestigious recognition honors communities committed to outstanding beautification and environmental efforts.
“Community leaders made a commitment back in 2015 to prioritize beautification and implement a program that was both purposeful and award-winning,” said Siders. “Our first win came during the height of COVID, and while we celebrated, it was understandably overshadowed. This time, we are embracing the full recognition of what this means for Levelland.
Siders emphasized that this award belongs to the unsung heroes—the sanitation and street departments, committee members, Chamber board members, and the many incredible volunteers who have worked tirelessly to make Levelland and the surrounding area more beautiful and welcoming.
She also applauded the leadership of the City Council and Chamber of Commerce Board, noting their ongoing support for everyday cleanup and improvement efforts.
With this recognition comes a $160,000 grant, which will be used to fund a major beautification project. “The same partners who helped earn this award will help us decide how to best use these funds.
It is a remarkable opportunity to complete a project of this magnitude without using local tax dollars,” Siders noted. Levelland is already enjoying an amazing mosaic monument because of our 2020 award.
Siders also gave special thanks to the local TxDOT staff, whose dedication and collaboration played a critical role in the success of the initiative.
“This is a truly special time for Levelland,” Siders concluded. “Our community continues to be intentional, every single day, about making Levelland better.” Arra Delos Santos, who serves as the Special Event Coordinator at the Chamber said ' We are honored to receive this award, which reflects the incredible commitment of our community. The passion and hard work of our residents and volunteers continue to drive the success of Keep Levelland Beautiful. Thanks to their ongoing support, we are able to take on meaningful projects that enhance our city’s charm and livability. This new funding gives us the opportunity to breathe new life into another important space, one that will stand as a point of pride for generations to come.” Since 1969, Keep Texas Beautiful has partnered with the Governor’s office to honor cities and towns for outstanding community improvement efforts. Since 1985, TxDOT has provided more than $49 million in funding for landscaping projects in winning communities.
This year’s winners include Blanco, Port Aransas, Pilot Point, Levelland, Angleton, Copperas Cove, Haltom City, Flower Mound, Waco, and Laredo. Each community was evaluated by a diverse panel of judges on seven key areas of environmental and community improvement, including public awareness, beautification, litter prevention, and waste management.
In addition to the landscape award, Keep Levelland Beautiful will receive a distinguished castaluminum plaque to display in a prominent public location, commemorating its achievement. For more information about the Governor’s Community Achievement Awards and the 2025 winners, visit ktb.org/gcaa.
