The City of Levelland is hiring lifeguards to work at the city pool during the summer months. The pool is slated to open Saturday June 3 and close Sunday August 6. Applicants need to be at least 16 and have or be willing to get CPR and lifeguard certified.
Director of Parks and Cemetery for the City of Levelland Dustin Reichelt explained that the city will reimburse the cost of getting the required certifications. Reichelt will give applicants additional information about the required certifications and where they can receive them.
“The Lifeguard certification is reimbursable once they get hired on,” Reichelt said. “The pools are a good place, it’s good to get experience in a municipality. It’s experience for many other different things in life. I encourage anybody that is thinking about it to do it. Because it can lead to many different things.”
The city has up to 12 lifeguard positions available and will be paying lifeguards $10 an hour.
“We typically hire 12 last guards but we have four signed up right now,” Reichelt said. “That doesn’t mean they’re actually going to come on, that’s pending them getting certified or they may decide not to come on board.”
The city pool is open Tuesday through Sunday 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Reichelt said that without lifeguards the pool would not be able to open.
“We won’t be able to open if we aren’t able to hire enough,” Reichelt said. “We may have to go on a limited schedule if we can get a few. We do have some right now so it’s looking more likely we can open up somewhat.”
