Hockley County prepares for upcoming general election

The Hockley County Election Office along with election offices across the state are busy preparing for the General Election in November.

The Texas Secretary of State’s office recently held training in Austin for all election offices.

Hockley County Election Administrator, Jody Rose attended the training and received over 15 hours of continuing education.

The conference began with a welcome from Texas Secretary of State, Jane Nelson as she announced the launch of her 2024 Fall Voter Education Campaign. She began by speaking to over 500 county election officials from across the state at the 42nd Annual Election Law seminar in Austin.

Nelson said, “My goal is to make sure every qualified Texan who wants to vote has all the information they need to cast a ballot, which is why we are reaching out to Texans this fall to make sure they are prepared for Election Day.”

During the conference, election officials attended election law training and refresher sessions on conducting safe and secure elections. They also learned how to solve issues that could come up, including working with partners such as law enforcement, media, and legal teams.

Nelson wrapped up the first morning by saying, “Election Administrators are critical to success of our elections, and we sincerely appreciate their service and support as they work to ensure our election process runs smooth for all eligible voters.”

As part of the training, election officials also completed four hours of disaster training through the Texas Secretary of State in collaboration with the Federal Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. The training helps officials prepare for many different security scenarios including physical security and cybersecurity scenarios.
