Hockley County Library supporting community

Libraries are more than checking out books. The Hockley County Memorial Library (HCML) supports the community by providing public access to a variety of resources and hosting events.

STAAR AI scoring questioned by school districts

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) implemented an automated scoring system utilizing artificial intelligence to grade openended STAAR writing and essay responses for more recent testing in schools that have spiked zero scores.

Wallace Theater to host Pop-up Museum

As Levelland celebrates its 100th anniversary, the Wallace Theater is asking Hockley County residents to help tell the story of the community through handmade creations, family heirlooms, and treasured artifacts for its sixth annual Pop-up Museum.

Texas utilizing sterile flies to combat NWS spread

After almost 60 years without a confirmed domestic case, USDA confirmed the first U.S. detection of New World Screwworm (NWS) in South Texas on June 3. Since that time, additional detections have been confirmed in Zavala, La Salle and Gillespie Counties in Texas, as well as Lea County, New Mexico.
