City of Sundown siren test April 9

The City of Sundown will be conducting its emergency notification system test (sirens) on Wednesday April 9, at 11:30 a.m.The tests will cycle through several times beginning at 11:30 a.m. and will end at 12 p.m.

Nonprofit grant workshop Apr. 30

All nonprofit organizations and programs are invited to attend a free workshop Wednesday April 30 at the Brasch Mitchell Building, 513 Avenue G in Levelland. The event will begin at 1:30pm. This informative program is to help any group in need of grants.

Forecasted moisture offers reprieve during drought

The forecasted moisture over the weekend has provided a small break for many spanning several fronts.Levelland and Hockley County Emergency Management Coordinator, Cole Kirkland explained that any precipitation is better than nothing.

Confirmed measles cases continue increase across South Plains region

The Texas Department of State Health Services is reporting an outbreak of measles in the South Plains and Panhandle regions of Texas.As of April 4, 481 cases have been identified since late January. Fifty-six of the patients have been hospitalized.

Hockley County Judge Sharla Baldridge has been recognized as a Fellow of the Texas Judicial Academy by the Texas Association of Counties (TAC).

Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB), a statewide nonprofit dedicated to environmental sustainability and community improvement, has recognized Keep L e v e l l a n d Beautiful as a Gold Star Affiliate— its highest honor for community affiliates.

The Levelland Chamber of Commerce shared that the new billboard is courtesy of Roger Lindsey and his team, the billboard was refurbished with new paint on the signs frame and poles. Also, Sign Design provided the artwork for the front and back of the billboard. As the weather continues to improve with the spring season here, the Levelland Parks and Cemetery Department are continuing to provide a quality experience for the community.

ROAD CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

- Work to make improvements to US 385 in Levelland continues next week at the Clubview Drive and FM 300 (Avenue H) intersection. Starting Monday, April 7, crews will begin work to remove the old roadway pavement at the intersection and replace it with a new asphalt surface.
