The Whiteface Lady Lopes finished an undefeated UIL District 5-2A high school girls’ basketball season with a 63-36 road win over the Sundown Roughettes last Tuesday.
Free throws were important in the matchup. Both teams shot around 62 percent, but Whiteface went 18-for-29 while the Roughettes went 8-for-13.
Whiteface and Sundown looked even at the first quarter buzzer with the Lady Lopes up 1211.
The second quarter found the Roughettes struggling to put up points against the Lady Lopes while the Whiteface offense found its stride. Whiteface was up 29-18 at halftime.
The third quarter found the Lady Lopes extending their lead to 47-28.
Lady Lope Jaedyn Rector had 20 points to lead all scorers. Emily and Hannah Blankenship had nine each. Kambry Sanders had seven. Lainey Sanders, Abi Soliz and Tymmyah Olenga had six apiece.
Sundown’s Kadee Riley had 11 points. Hannah Holdman had nine. Camry Jourdan and Kyndal Taggart had seven each. Avyian McGlassen had two.
The Lady Lopes will meet Iraan on Monday at Andrews in the bi-district round of the UIL playoffs. Game time is 6 p.m.
