The Smyer Lady Cats took on the Van Horn Lady Eagles this past Monday night for their Bi-District Round of playoffs where the Lady Cats dominated and won 71-25.
At the start of the game, Smyer was able to take control of the game and outscore Van Horn 21-4, taking a 17-point lead going into the second quarter of the game.
For the second quarter it was closer as the Lady Cats scored another 16 points while they held the Lady Eagles to just nine points, making the score 37-13, heading into the halftime break.
Leading Smyer in scoring at the half was Maegan Smith with 20 points.
Out of the break, Smyer’s defense was able to hold Van Horn to a minimum as they outscored the Lady Eagles once more, this time 21-3 making the score 58-16, heading into the final quarter of play.
For the fourth quarter of the game, Smyer was able to hold off Van Horn, still winning the quarter 12-10 and taking the Bi-District win of playoffs.
Smith led the Lady Cats in scoring with 33 points in the game. Ellie Nelson had nine points, Kenzie Zapata and Kaia Brandon both had seven points a piece, Rylee Riedel had six points, Jada Hernandez had four, Kira Posadas had three and Lynzie Benevedes finished with two points.
The Smyer Lady Cats progress to 24-9 on the season as they get ready to take on the Roscoe Plowgirls this Thursday with the time and place TBD at the time of this writing.
